So have all y'all seen KakyoinLee's gallery of amazingness? If you haven't, then I strongly suggest you do so. There are a few truly great things in there... one of them being this wonderful lineart: [link] . Doesn't it make ya happy just looking at it? Houndie's so real, believable, and alive; just sitting there chillin'...
EDIT: She recently colored Hound, too. Check it out:[link]
This coloring work is done in love and appreciation for two of my favorite people, who also happen to be Hound-fans: [link] who is awesome, and to whom I wish much luck as a writer extraordinaire; and [link] . <-- Check! Out! Her! Stuff!!! I worship this girl. "SRSLY." (She handles said worshipfulness with remarkable poise and humor... )
So, onward to the factoidal stuff... I tried something new on this one. I loved the sketchiness of the original so much, that I tried to keep that looseness in my coloring. In fact, I came within a hair's breadth of just posting my first trial color-test mock-up, because since it hadn't been filed under "Real Thing! Do Not Wreck!" in my head, I'd had fun and been really loose with it. But I'd also, as I realized how well it was turning out, overworked it at the end. See? Never file things under "Real Thing! Do Not Wreck"... or you'll wreck 'em! So I went ahead and made another printout, and tried to do it again. I started out fairly tight, because you can always go looser, but you can't tighten things up after the fact; and with wall, stairs, and the line/shade overlay, went to town with the free-for-all scribbling. (Well, kinda - I was still very careful. But I let all those great sketch lines live and breathe and frolic, dang it!)
I'm getting better at compelling the scanner to tow the line color-wise, but this one was really tough to get right. See that little energon cube? It is a lot more alive and glowy in the real thing; as are his little reddish lights on his legs and feet. It was like the scanner looked at those tiny bits of complimentary colors - those were important to me, frag it! - and rolled over to die at the mere thought of trying to render them accurately in the midst of that sea of analogous green and yellow...
I will say this, though: If you want to really set Hound apart from the background, put him in the orange-walled Ark! Green-Bot REALLY POPS when in orange environment!
Hope everyone likes this! Huzzah for chillin', unselfconscious Bot-poses! We need more! (It makes them seem real, if they aren't always posing for calendars and magazines. I'm not saying draw them pickin' their noses, but you know - draw them doing something other than saying "I R BIG, STRONG BOT! PHEAR MAH POHTENT LAZR!!!)
Love to all!
Prime Out.
PS - I usually sign things right along the bottom of the page, and crop out my signature in DA. But as it was part of the sketchiness (tm), I left it in this time. Just remember, IT'S NOT MY LINEART!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (And yes, of course I sign things "Ha-Hee Prime." My real name is BORING. It's gotten to the point where, if I sign anything without the "Prime," I feel like I'm lying, hiding something, or forgot something important!)
Colored in Prismacolor Markers.
Hound and transformers in general are owned by Hasbro, and stuff. Yeah.
I'm always an enormous fan of making these guys look real (after all... is it not the job of a fan to coax their fantasies out of the fantasy world?) and you certainly did it even with all the gestural coloring.

The way you do your colouring is truely beautiful, it looks so neat and it makes him really come to life. And your right, the orange background makes him stand out. Brilliant work Prime!
And in Re: Blurb... My absolute favorite thing about DA is that I get to watch and yak with people whose talent, spiffiness, and all-out-cool is beyond measure. It is... SO awesome to me to be able to play with art people again. I had missed it SO BAD; you have no idea! So all of that enthusiasm, on top of my usual ration, comes out when I mention anyone whom I think is nifty. I just don't even bother trying to be all staid and calm about it! There is a lot of criticism and bad feeling in the world, and I'm not going to participate. Yes, it might be easy to start getting a big head on here, if all you heard was "You Rock Man!" no matter what you did. But I figure that all of us art-attempters are our own biggest critics, and know when we're falling short and don't need our faces rubbed in it! So yeah. I went off about your awesomeness, because it is awesome. But I go off about everybody's awesomeness, whenever I find it! It's just what I do. So... feel spiffy, along with all of the other happy spiffy people on here. HUZZAH! Your brand of spiffy is tops. (Besides - I also have no qualms about telling people if I think they missed something important, and could fix it. Just ask about the time I had the gall to send a critique to my coloring GOD, Josh Burcham! hee hee hee)

Just woke up and this made my morning before the start of a busy day! I absolutely love Hound -- he's one of my favorites -- and you did such a great job with this. Great, great work with the coloring, it matches the style of the lineart perfectly.
I agree with you that the pose is awesome, and so very Hound. And I'm gonna be thinking "PHEAR MA LAZR" all day now thanks to you.
Your use of the contrasting colors is very well chosen. I tend to be too conservative when choosing colors and I think some of my stuff ends up kind of muddled as a result. The loose coloring suits the style very well and I'm glad to see you've er...convinced your scanner not to be such an aft-head all the time. Pretty, pretty work.
God! So awesome! I love your style! >////< And, what in Hound's hand is not the energon cube, I think it's a pop can... Whatever it really is not worth mention! I love this, it's so vivid.<3
May I post the great art in my blog [link] ? Sure I'll keep your name and dA post link!
Sure you can post it! I am so glad you liked it; it's always very important to me that the original artist like the way I color their art! (And I wasn't sure it was energon either, but I went ahead and did it. I wanted a spot of another color...)

Many thanks, pal! It's funny - I never cared much one way or the other for Hound (or Bumblebee, for that matter), but seeing this picture, I suddenly got why he is so lovable. He and I are friends now
