Description

So, yamiza aka the inimitable Sara Pitre-Durocher shared some commissions she'd done, and I saw this just as a whole buncha slag was goin' down in real life. And it healed my heart a little. Now, it's not often I get to color other people's commissions, but this time, I was given permission. THANKS EVERSO, GALS!!!

Here's the thing I am RIDICULOUSLY PROUD OF:
T H E   S H I N E.

DO YOU SEE IT???
I MADE SHINY METAL!!!!!!!!!!!

This is something my brain has steadfastly refused to compute, lo, these 9+ years! *cries, pulls hair out, falls on floor in a tantrum*
Seriously, guys, I look All The Time at shiny metal, trying to figure out how the heck it works. Driving? Nope, I'm looking at that newly-washed black car beside me, trying to figure out how exactly that orange sunset is reflecting in its sides. You know, when I should be watching the road so I don't steer INTO said shiny car.
I also stare feverishly at work by people who DO manage to color shiny metal with markers. (Or with any other medium.)
"How do they DO it?" I beg my brain.
"I dunno," my brain shrugs.
Cue wailing and tantrums.

BUT.
I have figured out that there's usually a rim of light around the edges of metal pieces, even when the edges are facing away. (I think.)
And I've figured out that there's usually a dark strip almost next to the highlight, for some unfathomable reason.
I'M TRYING TO INCORPORATE THESE.

But they make NO SENSE to my brain, which is still in "shadow goes on the away-from-the-light side, highlights on the lit side, etc.".
Augh.
I'll keep working on this.
BUT FOR NOW,
Sunny & Bob look pretty darn shiny, no? It's not perfect technique, but it's a start!

Thanks again for letting me color this.

This isn't regular shinning! this is like, professional shinning! :la:
actually you did it really well!
(it's the reflective nature of metal: it reflects the ligth that touches the object directly but also reflects the light around it)
Congrats on the new accquired skill!
;D
